Hopkinsville Christennial Plate and Coin 1974

This grouping includes the Hopkinsville, Kentucky commemorative plate from 1974, and its matching commemorative bronze coin. Especially amazing is that I also found the lead proof of one side of that coin in a shed at a local tag sale. The proof was in a dilapidated case along with 3 other nice coins.

The Hopkinsville (founded in 1799) 175th anniversary was celebrated over the 4th of July weekend in 1974. The celebration was called the Christennial and included an honoring of local towns, buildings and major historical events.

It is astounding how serendipitous finding each of these items has been. I found the lead proof in an old rundown shed at a tag sale, the coin in a different local estate sale, and I found the plate today in a thrift store.

  1. Somehow I would like to find a nice home for these items with a Hoptown fan; especially the lead coin proof, which deserves special attention. Perhaps the Pennyrile Museum will have a suggestion.
