In 1954, Dave Thomas at Stangl designed a number of
cigarette related pieces. This ashtray
is one of those pieces. He created the marbled
swirling design in the clay body, a design that was short lived. It is a bit of modern art from the
1950s. There are blues, whites and slate
grays in this piece. The glaze is
clear. All of the color is in the clay
body. This ashtray is about 3 inches
across.

Stangl Ceramic Yellow Creamer Pottery Vintage
This yellow Stangl pottery creamer is not marked, as
with many Stangl pieces. However, it is
in very nice condition and would make a nice addition to any Stangl
collection. This is a classic Stangl
design and color. I do not have any
matching pieces.
Stangl Rose Bloom Vase Dave Thomas 1954 Vintage
This rose vase by Stangl was quite a find. In 1954, Dave Thomas designed some cigarette
related ceramics with a marbled swirl design to the clay body in several
colors. This is not a cigarette related
piece, but it clearly has the same swirl to the clay. The modern art splattered paint design,
reminiscent of Jackson Pollock (who died in 1956) is in the glaze. Again, the grey and white swirled effect is
in the clay body while the splatters are in the glaze. This is an exceptional piece and may well be
one of a kind. There are no markings on
the bottom, which Stangl is known for. A
little research will lead one to Stangl.
This piece must have sat on a mantle as I had to wash off years of
yellow film. A rare find. This vase is
about 5 inches tall.
