This is an exceptional Anri hand carved, hand painted
figurine of the Madonna; Mary and Jesus.
It was made in Italy. The Anri
company began in 1912. This is an early
piece and is hand carved from wood and delicately hand painted. The cut off turning spindle is seen on the
bottom along with two heat brands burned into the base. There are also two ink stamped marks,
including the Anri mark. One familiar
with the Anri marks would likely be able to tell who did the carving. This figure is about 5.5 inches tall.
I about fell over when I spotted this Madonna in a local antique store. I now have several Madonna figures on my knickknack shelf. This is simply an exceptional find.
